Fenway Park to host three college football games next season

Fenway Park will hold three college football games in November, including one involving Boston College, which turned down an offer to play a home game at the Red Sox ballpark this past season, the Boston Globe reports.

In the most recent college football game played at Fenway, Notre Dame beat host Boston College in 2015 in front of a sellout crowd of 38,686.

While Boston College will play UConn at the ballpark on Nov. 18, 2017, it will be a home game for the Huskies, not the Eagles.

David Benedict, UConn’s new athletic director, liked the offer put forth by the Red Sox: a $1.125 million guarantee, the largest in school history, plus 22,000 tickets.

We’re not going to pitch him in a game right away, Giants manager Bruce Bochy told reporters. We’re going to give him a few days to get acclimated.

Cueto’s late arrival means he will not be able to particpate for the D.R. in the World Baseball Classic’s first round. The team begins play Thursday in Miami. Cueto said Maybe when asked if he might join the team if it makes the semifinals.

The 31-year-old Cueto went 18-5 with a 2.79 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in his first season in a Giants uniform. Although he signed a six-year deal, it includes an opt-out clause after this season that could return him to the free agent market.

Cueto insisted Saturday he’s not thinking about that.
