With NBA free agency kicking off July 1, Kyle Lowry reportedly will be targeted by multiple teams, including the 76ers, Timberwolves and, of course, the Raptors.

Lowry has made three consecutive All-Star teams in Toronto, and team president Masai Ujiri seems certain he’ll stay north of the border. Raptors guard DeMar Derozan also appears confident as he told Sports Illustrated he plans to stay out of Lowry’s decision-making process.

“I’d want him on my staff because he’d have the respect of everybody in this league right away,” Lue said. “You know, if I hadn’t defended him in that series, I’d have been out of the league. He made me.”

“AI” made Lue look bad in Game 1 in that series, scoring 48 points. That game included the infamous incident where Iverson crossed up Lue for a basket; after Lue fell to the floor, Iverson theatrically stepped over him.

The Lakers went on to win the series in five games. And Lue would go on to play 11 seasons in the NBA, setting him up for his current job as coach of the powerhouse Cavs. Iverson, who was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame last year, is now one of the marquee players in the new Big3 basketball league.

“It’s definitely going to help a lot because I’m going to be in a lot better shape than I was last year,” Howard said. “I know the plays this year. I won’t be timid or even thinking. I’ll Cheap Hockey Jerseys For Sale be able to play loosely. I’m focusing on getting in better shape and being in better condition so I Cheap High Quality NFL Jerseys can play even more snaps.”

The Bears, coming off a 3-13 season, will need all the help they can get, especially when their quarterback position is a big question mark.

Bochy made it clear Bumgarner would play normal catch on flat ground. It’s too soon to throw off a mound in a bullpen session, so a timeline for when the Giants might expect the lefthander, who has averaged 15.5 wins over the past six seasons, back in their rotation remains unclear.

San Francisco is 22-30, 11 games back of the first-place Rockies.

Welington Castillo could soon find himself on the disabled list.

The Orioles catcher ended up in the emergency room following Tuesday’s loss to the Yankees after taking a deflected pitch in groin area and could sit out the next few games, the Baltimore Sun reported Wednesday.

Castillo was initially believed to be taking a routine day off for Wednesday’s series finale against New York after making five straight starts, but could miss additional time after being diagnosed with a hematoma in the groin. The team’s medical staff will continue to monitor the injury and determine how much time he’ll need to recover.

Castillo spent a lot of time in the emergency room last night, postgame, with the obvious contusion, whatever you want to call it, that he had last night that everybody knows about, Orioles manager Buck Showalter told reporters.

Kevin Pillar will donate the salary he forfeited for using an anti-gay slur last month to two Toronto-area LGBTQ organizations, the Blue Jays center fielder announced.

Pillar has apologized since he was suspended without pay for two games for yelling the homophobic slur at Braves pitcher Jason Motte during an on-field confrontation during a game May 17.

It’s not lip service, Pillar said (via ESPN.com). It’s easy to come out and make your apologies and hope people forget, but I meant what I said when I said hopefully I’ll be made an example of.

Based on his $555,000 salary, Pillar’s estimated donation would be just less than $7,000. The money will go to PFLAG, an LGBTQ advocacy and support group, and You Can Play, an organization that works to make sports safe and open for athletes regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Pillar also will go through sensitivity training sessions with PFLAG.

Need to know: Minor missed all of 2015 with a shoulder injury and didn’t see the big leagues in 2016, either ’ he made 10 starts in the minors as he tried to build up strength as a starter ’ but he’s been really good out of the bullpen so far in 2017. He’s pitched 24 2/3 innings over 19 appearances, striking out 25 and allowing just 15 hits and seven walks, with a 1.82 ERA/1.98 FIP. Minor had been a starter during his pre-injury career with the Braves, but moving to the bullpen has been a boost to his fastball; Minor’s averaging 93.9 mph this year after sitting around 9.07 his first five years in the majors. He’d make a great addition to any playoff-bound bullpen.

The Royals have decisions to make.

This isn’t a surprise, of course. They’ve long known about these looming decisions concerning a crop of talented players they’ll try to extend, let walk as free agents or trade away to restock a farm system that ranks in the bottom third in baseball, in terms of talent.

Truth is, if the Royals wanted to truly maximize the trade value of these players, they should have moved some of them last year. But it’s understandable that GM Dayton Moore was hesitant to do so; the Royals made it to Game 7 of the 2014 World Series and won the 2015 World Series, and the pressure was on to make at least one more run with that core group in 2016.

Siri took exception to the play and charged Pinero afterwards, shoving him in the back and appeared to take a few swings. The umpire stepped in between them, but the aggression spread out to both teams and the benches cleared.

During the chaos, West Michigan relief pitcher Eduardo Jimenez could be clearly seen throwing a ball at Dayton reliever Jesse Stallings. This was perhaps the most violent act during the whole situation, but the umpires must have not seen it as Jimenez was not ejected from the game. He could be looking at a suspension in the near future, though.

Well, we’re two months into the 2017 season and surprising names are still all over the leaderboards. Figured we’d take a look at the most surprising category leaders so far this season. All stats are through Tuesday’s games.

Why that’s surprising: In 2016, his first season away from playing his home games with the Rockies in Coors Field, Dickerson’s batting average dropped off a cliff. He was a career .299 hitter for Colorado, but batted just .245 for Tampa Bay last year.

He was still a productive hitter ’ he popped 24 homers and had a .761 OPS in 148 games ’ but there wasn’t much reason to think he’d be in the conversation for best average in the AL. Manager Kevin Cash moved him from the middle/bottom of the lineup to the leadoff spot for 2017, though, and Dickerson has responded well (obviously). He leads the AL in hits (72) and total bases (128), and he’s tied with Yankees slugger Aaron Judge for the league lead in runs scored (39).

Danny Salazar is switching to relief duties.

The Indians have sent the right-hander to the bullpen amid his struggles so far this season, the team announced Sunday.

Indians manager Terry Francona disclosed Salazar will be available as a reliever beginning Wednesday, but could start a game next week during Cleveland’s road trip to face the Royals and Rockies. The 2016 All-Star has struck out 73 batters in 52 1/3 innings, though he’s allowed 55 hits and 28 walks.

Salazar, 27, is 3-5 with a 5.50 ERA in 10 starts. He went 11-6 with a 3.87 ERA last year after missing most of the second half of the season with a sore elbow.

Two years ago, the Astros selected a college hitter with the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, and Alex Bregman has worked out pretty well thus far. Burger has a ton of power, and the idea of this right-handed hitter taking regular aim at the Crawford Boxes in left field has to be exciting for Astros fans.

Pratto had the game-winning RBI in the championship game of the 2011 Little League World Series, which is pretty cool. He’s still a heck of a baseball player, which is more relevant to this discussion. Pratto could wind up several spots higher than this.

One of the perks of going to a baseball game for young fans is receiving a game-used baseball.

Unfortunately for one young fan attending the Pirates-Braves game Wednesday night at SunTrust Park, his baseball was taken away from him ’ by a security guard.

It all happened in the bottom of the eighth inning when the Braves’ Rio Ruiz hit the ball fair down the right field line. A fan reached over the outfield wall to grab the ball, and handed it to a boy.

Fan interference was called and a security guard aggressively motioned to remove the fan from the stadium and then took the ball away from the kid.

Maybe the Angels (if they decide to buy) and maybe the Yankees (if Greg Bird continues to struggle when he returns from the DL) and maybe the Astros. That’s about it. Certainly not enough teams to get into a bidding war for Hosmer. The thing is, if the Royals are going to trade him, they ideally would do it now, while Hosmer’s on a hot streak (.374 over his past 26 games), which doesn’t exactly mix with hoping a trade market develops for him down the road.

Entering Friday, Andrew McCutchen had played in 1,236 games for the Pirates in a nine-year major league career. Not once in that span did McCutchen start a game batting lower than the cleanup spot.

Friday night, though, McCutchen will bat sixth against the Mets ’ just the latest marker of the sudden downward turn the former National League MVP’s career has taken.

McCutchen has spent most of his career batting third, with 878 of his 1,221 big-league starts coming in that slot. He also has started in the leadoff spot 236 times, the No. 2 hole 78 times, and hit cleanup 29 times.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said earlier this month he was going to shy away from forecasting timelines for players returning from significant injuries. Apparently that means a gag order as well for Collins.

Injuries have been a massive problem for the Mets this season with Cespedes, Steven Matz (elbow), Seth Lugo (elbow), Asdrubal Cabrera (thumb), David Wright (shoulder), Jeurys Familia (shoulder) and Noah Syndergaard (shoulder) having missed significant time. The latter two players have come with severe criticism as both pitchers were cleared to throw, likely exacerbating their injuries.

We don’t have any reason to think it’s something we’re doing or not doing that causes injuries,’’ Collins told the Daily News. It’s not like we have five guys out with hamstring injuries. If that was the case, I’d say, ’Yeah, we need to take a look at the way we do things.’

But that’s not the case. And other teams have injuries too, by the way. It’s just the way it is in baseball.

When it comes to exciting plays, it’s hard to beat an around-the-horn triple.

Thursday night, the Twins did baseball fandom a solid by pulling off this impressive feat against the Angels. For the casual fan, it made up for Albert Pujols not hitting his 600th homer (sorry, Angels fans).

The triple-killing was the standout highlight on a day of limited MLB action, but we’re back to a full slate of games Friday, starting with age-old Cubs-Cardinals rivalry at 2:20 p.m. ET. Other series of interest include Red Sox-Orioles, White Sox-Tigers and Astros-Rangers.

Keuchel, 29, has a 1.84 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and a 7-0 record this season. The Astros have gone 8-1 in his starts, including seven straight wins.

In Congaree National Park, just 18 miles south of Tebow’s spot in left field, a scintilla of hope still exists for the longest of long shots in the ornithological community. The Ivory-billed Woodpecker , a goliath of a winged creature nicknamed the Lord-God Bird because of its massive size ( as in Lord God, that is a big bird! ), is thought to be extinct — the last confirmed sighting was in Louisiana in 1944 — but rumors of its survival have persisted.

This is speculation, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Hosmer could return as a free agent this offseason. The Royals won’t offer the biggest contract, but if Hosmer finds the market for his services lower than he hoped for, maybe he opts to return to a franchise and fan base that loves him unconditionally at a lower salary than he could land elsewhere.

However, at least one Dodger, who himself just came off the DL Thursday, wasn’t quite as upbeat, according to the Times.

It always sucks when one of your main guys gets hurt, first baseman Adrian Gonzalez said. Definitely, his production and his leadership will be missed.

Turner entered Thursday’s game hitting an MLB-best .379 average with a home run and 17 RBIs. Chris Taylor replaced him at third to finish the game.

Brustman was wearing a University of Tennessee hat, so it remains to be seen whether the errant throw was intentional, but leave it to Tebow to smooth over the incident effectively.

The Mets had already had a representative come over to check on Brustman, but after Tebow finished warming up, he approached Brustman and did his best to mend the fan’s mental wounds.

I said, ’I think you saw my hat and beaned me with the ball.’ He looked at my hat, laughed and fist-bumped me, Brustman said. He didn’t have to come over. How can you hate him? He’s almost too good to be true.

Tebow signed the ball for Brustman and his 13-year-old daughter Morgan, who happened to be wearing a Florida Gators shirt at the time and hopes to eventually play basketball for Tebow’s alma mater. He signed two books that Morgan had brought along as well just in case she ran into the former Heisman winner.

Perhaps no one other than Tim Tebow could turn a Tennessee fan who had literally been harmed by a Florida Gator into a fan.

The Cubs have a decision on their hands: what do they do with Ian Happ?

Now the first bit of news here is obvious, the reigning world champions are getting right fielder Jason Heyward off of the 10-day-DL Saturday, he told the media Friday.

I am playing tomorrow, Heyward said, via CBS Chicago. I needed to swing the bat. I did not need to walk. I needed to swing the bat and feel free. I was just worried about the at-bats and letting my hands go. I was into the timing and not to worry about the hand at all.

That’s great for their defense which has been suffering as of late, but it puts them in an odd spot as they have to decide now whether to keep Happ on the 25-man roster, or do they send him back down to Triple-A Iowa after he has hit .353 with two home runs and four RBI since his callup?

What the Cubs will have to weigh is this; do they retain a young man that has helped the Cubs go 4-2 since his callup, or do they send him down when the offense has been stagnant for a lot of the season without him?

This may have been an easier argument to make last year when Heyward hit .230 with just seven home runs as the team’s starting right fielder, but this season he has shown signs of life at the plate with a .253 average and three home runs in 28 games this season.

It’s not an easy decision, but one that may have very little to do with Heyward and more to do with Happ’s development as a second baseman.
